Re: My First Vid!!!
Thu, October 19, 2006 - 11:13 AMgood stuff, coundn't sit through the whole thing
and I am not one to talk considering I rarely put anything out there.....
but,
Improvements:
1) try more same time same direction and more split time but opposite direction spinning.
2) try turning more between moves and sequences of moves....
3) your flow is sweet but try altering the tempo of your flow, not just from slow to fast but all the speeds in between.
4) More stalls to move between ame and opposite direction.
Commendations:
1) you made a video...awseome.
2) the editing in your video is good enough for COL....
3) your flow is good, how long have you been spinning?
4) a few nice flowers.
Well hope that helps......

Re: My First Vid!!!
Fri, October 20, 2006 - 12:24 PMYeah, that's the problem with videos. No matter how good you do it, after editing the video and watching it fourteen times, you are going to be sick of it and think about taking it down. That's why the only video I have up of myself with fire is unedited and I've never watched it. I don't have the courage to actually put together an edited segment of me doing everything right.
Also, I want to comment that you guys had a good amount of ambient light. The fire still looks like fire, but you can still see the people spinning, and it's always in focus. Good job.

Re: My First Vid!!!
Fri, October 20, 2006 - 5:32 PMI liked the video, very nice editing...
I can't say anything about the poi stuff as I don't do poi... but the rope-dart felt awkward... I don't know... maybe it's because its a repetitive, or maybe it's because there was *NO* throws at all... lol ;-)
ok... there was some of the "bird kicks branch" stuff, but that isn't really a throw...
a rope-dart is *BASED* on throws the same way a poi is based on spinning (i don't see any throw-like moves in poi)... a meteor hammer has less throws, but even a meteor uses lots of throws... -

Re: My First Vid!!!
Mon, October 23, 2006 - 9:37 AMI hate throws I am looking for more flow moves and trying to explore some aspects of rope dart that aren't traditional. I took your advice and learned a few knee/elbow tosses over the weekend tho. I think you are absolutely right about needing more tosses. The video unfortunately didn't capture the neck toss (empty knot) and pretty neat horizontal move that I do. I did also lengthened my dart about 3 feet which is a little strange but I will be working on some wraps that involve leg/shoulder or leg/neck but at this point I don't have anything solid there.
Thanks for the advice I needed it:)

Re: My First Vid!!!
Mon, September 24, 2007 - 7:33 PMfrom a purely wushu standpoint:
- your hips are closed/tight and you're hooking your lower back. both of these will affect your posture and your mobility.
- your footwork is unsure. by having a more solid foundation, the rest of your moves will come more easily.
- left arm is not being used. other than the asthetics of having your left arm in a semi-bent position, your left arm should be extending and bending constantly to control the length of the rope and thus, the speed of rotation. -

Re: My First Vid!!!
Tue, September 25, 2007 - 10:05 AMThanks so much for the input Brandon, this would have been so much more helpful last October (I had been playing with my dart about a month at that time) and I stuffed it into my bag of toys about a month later only to use it 5-6 times since. You may have given me a little push to have another go with it. It is funny to see how right you really are about my footwork "unsure" really is the best way to describe it. I did discover how to center myself much better after this session but never really followed through. Do you teach Wushu? I would love to see examples of your work, and I am sure the rest of this tribe could learn a lot from you?
