So I'm trying to make myself a rope dart to practice with. I have about 20 ft of nylon woven 1/2 in rope and I started by tying a chinese button knot on one end and was planing on tying a mokeys fist knot around that one. I was thinking this design because I prefer using ball shaped wicks as opposed to the phallus shaped ones. I was wondering what other people did to make theirs?

Re: making a practice dart
Fri, May 8, 2009 - 11:51 AMI tied a monkey fist and attached a chain of 12" attached to cotton rope. This gives me nearly the same weight to practice with as my fire toy.
The phallus shaped fire toy feels different swinging then a monkey fist. I notice the monkey fist spins more and needs swivels to keep the rope from twisting to much. Adding the poi chain with a swivel seems to help keep the rope from twisting and gives the same feel as a fire toy where you will have to have the chain. At least to me the chain in the connection slightly changes the feel as opposed to my steel dart with the rope to ring connection.
Just my thoughts but there are far more experienced users on here than myself.

Re: making a practice dart
Fri, May 8, 2009 - 11:51 AMAt least for me, weight is such a variable that I flat refuse to practice with anything other than my fire dart now. I used to have a couple of practice darts, because I was worried about wrecking my wics, but even if you practice with them, they will last at least a year, at which point, it is pretty cheap to replace them.
