I can't get a good answer on this. It's killing me (and getting expensive). We tried bending some aluminum out of it and crimping the top, but it was too thin, we tried getting the standard two screw rope fasteners on a knot, but the quicklink only fits sideways. I can't find any specific answers to this problem. This is also going to be an even bigger problem on the meteor I want to buy. Any help? thanks.

Re: The Rope->Chain Connection
Fri, January 23, 2009 - 4:31 PMMy favorite solution to this is to get a chain with a big ring in one end (like a choke chain). Cut to length and attach the cut end to the wick. Then, take the rope and fold it over the ring. Then use a bungee connector to attach the rope to itself. These connectors are like a half tube with two U bolts that both parts slip through, then you tighten down for a really secure connection. For durability, use one of those metal sheaths that they use for cable ties between the rope and the ring.
The biggest advantage of this setup is that you have that ring to hold onto for very short chain moves (like poi).

Re: The Rope->Chain Connection
Sat, January 24, 2009 - 7:41 AMIf you have the rope know how, spice the rope around a ring. If you're using a cheap braided rope, piercing the rope with a quick link establishes the same effect. If you haven't got the know how, use either a simple self tightening knot, or a belaying knot.
More has already been posted in this thread: fireropedart.tribe.net/thread...c554d52 including how to tie the knot I use, a variation on the classic figure 8 stop-knot used in sailing. Also recommended is a retraced figure 8, a knot used commonly in rope climbing belay systems.

Re: The Rope->Chain Connection
Sat, January 24, 2009 - 8:13 AMThanks to both of you. I think for now I'm gonna try to learn that knot and just have the quick link in the loop. I'm going to go look for metal rings though for my meteor. I appreciate the quick replies! -

Re: The Rope->Chain Connection
Tue, February 17, 2009 - 9:33 PMOne other way is again use a chain with a ring make the rope go through the ring and then bend the rope, and simply sew the rope on both sides with a regular thread and needle. Also add some extra stitches which goes through the rope.
